Is small business for you? 

Many people believe that to start a new business all you need is a good product, some money, and a lot of determination.

This is absolutely true. However, to add to that you need knowledge, adaptability, understanding, patience, ability to take the knocks, more money, willingness to work long hours, planning skills, so on, and so on. If it all sounds too hard, perhaps going into business is not for you.

Statistics suggest that over 70 percent of people don't survive their first year and 90 percent don't make it to the fifth year.

Okay! you may say "but, I'm different", and that may well be true. However, unless you are armed with as many facts as possible about the business you are going into, your chance of survival is about as good as the 70 percent.

Now that you have read about the negatives, here are some positives to take into consideration.

Should you decide to go ahead, you will be driving the business forward, you have the steering wheel and should you steer into a ditch you will crash. If you don't fix the problems before this happens you may well end up in the scrap yard. How you plan and travel on your journey will be entirely up to you. There will be many side roads and detours ahead but providing you continue to steer forward adjusting when these deviations occur, you can and will get there.

From this point on, you are in control, you will decide whether you want to carry on with your business, whether you will want to work through these worksheets, or whether you just forge ahead with nothing more than your gut feelings. You may chose to move in another direction or try another idea, or give up the idea altogether, rest assured the decision will be yours and so will the consequences of that decision.

We only ask this of you....that you make your decision 'based on knowledge' and not just a dream. At this stage you need to look at the reality, the time for dreaming has passed now it is time for action.
